There were many plans. The week after, his mum put weather stripping on the inside of all the doors and windows. And the week after that, he was there to give her hand when she put leaf guards over the gutters.
When he smelt the smoke, he backed his home. Inside the house, he moved quickly. First, he shut all the doors and windows. Next, he took towels and woolen blankets from the hall cupboard. Finally, with the last of the blankets over him, he got down low on the floor, and waited. The listening to the fire roar outside, he wondered how his mum would cope if she lost him, too. Before the fire-fighter arrived there, he finished wetting down the house.
